Play Stands, Dens & Structures

Play Stands, Dens and Quiet Retreats

Group care is relentless for a small child. There is noise, there are other bodies, and there is nowhere to go. The pieces in this collection give a room somewhere to withdraw to and something open-ended to climb through — without anyone leaving supervision.

Somewhere to be alone without leaving the room

The Reading Pod, Reading Cube and Explorer Caves are enclosures a child can get inside. Educators tell us these become the most-used pieces in the room within a week, and that the children who need them most are the ones who find them first. Sightlines are kept open enough for supervision from across the room.

Open-ended on purpose

The Waldorf Arches and Arcs are deliberately not anything in particular. Climbed over, crawled through, draped with a sheet, laid flat as a bridge or stood up as a wall — they become whatever the play needs that morning. That is the point, and it is why they hold interest long after a themed piece has been abandoned. The Arch with Backing gives you a solid face when you want to define a corner.

Built for climbing, every day

These get stood on, hung off and dragged across the room. Solid construction, rounded edges and corners, low-VOC child-safe finishes, and a low centre of gravity so nothing tips when a child leans their whole weight on one edge. Made in Moorefield, Ontario with a lifetime warranty.
